The Matching Hypothesis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

The Matching Hypothesis - Essay Example The Matching Hypothesis proposes that people of similar levels of physical attractiveness gravitate toward one another (Weiten & Lloyd, 2003). For the sake of testing the validity of the Matching Hypothesis, this research study was conducted to witness whether married couples (or romantic partners) form relationships based primarily on physical attractiveness. This researcher hypothesised that there would, indeed, exist a positive correlation between couples of the same average level of physical beauty being rated on similar levels in a 1-10 scale; or that both variables representing each partner in a romantic relationship would co-vary in the same direction; thus a directional hypothesis. In a correlational research study, the correlational coefficient will vary between 0 and +1.00 (if positive) or between 0 and -1.00 (if negative). In some studies, attractiveness levels of long-term spouses have correlated above .50. (Manstead & Hewstone, 1999). Walster & Walster (1969) conducted a n experiment which indicated a .89 correlation (high) between physical attractiveness and the subsequent perceived desire for another individual. This researcher chose to analyse the results of this study using a correlational method as part of verifying the directional hypothesis. The concept of the Matching Hypothesis was offered by a professional researcher in psychology, E. Walster, who, in conjunction with various researchers, established high correlation coefficients that supported the theory. Walster and Walster (1969) conducted an experiment where participants in the study were randomly paired in a "computer dance" scenario and then issued a follow up survey to rate the acceptability of their partners. It was found in this study that physical attractiveness Further, Berscheid & Walster have conducted research studies which have supported the view that people tend to prefer partners who are more similar to them in terms of attractiveness (Harvey et al, 2004). Contemporary Culture and Its Effects - Essay Example Adopting contemporary culture has affected lives both in a positive as well as negative manner. It has made our lives fast and more technology oriented but if specifically seen from the view of creative industry, it has not given what it should. The following essay is based on the stance that contemporary culture has not given what it should, and this stance is supported by the evidences of different researches. This paper makes a conclusion that different researchers analyse the affect of contemporary culture on music industry. Gilbert is one of those authors who have discussed music with respect to modern culture. According to Gilbert, only a few studies emerged on the subject of music itself. There were lots of researches on relationship of youth with media but less work on the understanding of music. The dance culture and music culture have also changed. Contemporary culture has posed problems for both dance culture. The music is also no longer a source of sensory pleasure because of excessive modernization. There is more focus on production of more music without understanding the true essence. Cultural theory has an assumption that it is the consumption pattern which determines production and not the other way round. It means that the lifestyle of consumers is very important and it shapes the pattern of production. In other words, identity of a person is more important than the work lif e a person has. A person has to sell himself in society to be acceptable and starts earning.

Twenty-two nations term Mexico as their first or second sales market, and it is a top-five export center for fourteen different nations. American customers and businesses buy huge amounts of bilateral manufactured items and services from Mexico like produce, automobiles, and petroleum among others. Yet, for each dollar Mexico makes from selling to the US, it shall in turn use 50 cents on US items or services that are a substantial gain to their economy and illustrates the really extra ordinary quality of this trade or bilateral manufacturing association (Mesia, 2008, 14). Mexico is much greater than a nation with which US simply goes on to share a 2,000-mile length land boundary. It i s significant for US to notice that Mexico is among their major important commercial associates in the sphere. ... It has a high-developed higher learning system, which is just next to Chile in Latin America. Despite being a dominant petroleum manufacturer, Mexico attains 20% of its power from recycled sources. Should Schools Have Uniforms Essay Example for Free

Should Schools Have Uniforms Essay Most high school students are teenagers. They are no longer children, but they still are not adults. Thus, they often want to wear latest fad clothes when they go to schools. However, I prefer the idea that they should be required to wear uniforms. First of all, uniform is one of the best features of each high school. Every country has its own national flag. Every football team has its own club emblem. Similarly, every high school has its own uniform. Uniform helps us to distinguish among schools. When we see a student at the street or on the media, we can tell where he is studying by the uniform that he is wearing. Moreover, each high school has a particular tradition. School uniforms can instill a feeling of school spirit. Wearing them can make students proud of their schools quintessence. Furthermore, wearing uniforms makes the classes more formal and more beautiful. If students have the right to decide what to wear to school, the classes appear to be in disorder. Hence, wearing the same clothes helps in creating a tidy learning environment. The teachers are interesting in imparting the knowledge to students, and the students are enthusiastic about studying more. It not only makes the teachers to feel comfortable in teaching, but it also helps the students to acquire better scholastic achievements. Finally, requiring all students to wear uniforms keeps high schools having high standards of discipline. To evaluate the quality of a school, besides providing superior learning programs, having a lot of books in libraries, building good buildings, the way its students obeying the schools rules is also one important factor. If the students attend classes regularly with uniforms, the school will have a good reputation. Many teenagers, as well as their parents, want them to be able to enter these schools. It ensures that the juveniles not only have better education, but they also are trained to become virtuous people. In conclusion, for the reasons above, I strongly agree that all high school students should wear uniforms at school. It makes the schools to be more beautiful, and helps the teachers and students in teaching and learning effectively.
